Acer Aspire AS5750-6438 15.6-Inch Laptop Review for Everyday Use and Media

The Acer Aspire AS5750-6438 15.6 inch laptop is a mid range laptop that is excellent for most everyday use combined with viewing of movies on your laptop. If you are looking for a computer that will allow you to do word processing, internet browsing, application/song downloads and TV/video streaming then you have found the right laptop. This is an excellent model and it is very much great value for money. It has great speed, a very good processor, a large hard drive and good graphics processing as well. It is just the right size and is definitely not too big or too small as it can be transported easily and can serve as a desktop replacement just as easily.

Pros

  • Fantastic value for money: You get a Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB hard drive space and a good graphics processor for very little money.
  • Processing Speed: The computer runs all applications very quickly and has no problem with multi tasking either thanks to 4GB RAM
  • Speakers: These are very loud speakers for a laptop and when you have music on the loudest volume you could be forgiven for thinking they were external speakers.
  • Display: This is a beautiful display and it gives you fantastic picture, video and general processing image quality as well as being adjustable to different brightness settings.

Cons

  • Keyboard: It can be a bit flimsy
  • Battery Life: 2 hours, or so, is good but not great compared to MacBook Pros that have 7 hours of battery life.

Build and Design

The Acer Aspire has a very stylish build. It is a combination of black and grey and that gives it a great aesthetic appeal. The area surrounding the screen the speakers is black and so is the keyboard. The mouse area and the rest of the part surrounding the keyboard is grey and that gives its design and build a good contrast. The rest of the design is simple and effective. The back cover is blue and shiny, which gives the laptop an expensive feel when you are carrying it around. The only minor downside would be the keyboard which can be a bit flimsy. People have complained that it can be a bit awkward to type on at first, but that is nothing that a little getting used to cannot fix.

Display and Speakers

This laptop has a gorgeous 15.6 inch display that is fully high definition to 720p. You can get a resolution of 1366 x 768 and you can easily connect the laptop to external displays via an HDMI port. The display brightness can be adjusted from within the computer operating system and from the keyboard. There are nine levels of brightness so you can definitely adjust it to suit your eyes and the place you are in. That is a great option because this laptop can go from being the perfect screen to watch a movie on to being so dim that you can read at night with the lights of without damaging your eyes. That is definitely good versatility to have in a screen.

The speakers are very loud and they are located just in front of the keyboard. They have excellent bass and treble and can be adjusted from the keyboard as well. There is a Dolby Digital Theater sound system inside the computer, along with Virtual SurroundSound which makes the sound even better.

Ports and Features

There are plenty of ports in this computer. It has an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, four USB ports, a mic and headphone jack as well as a Memory Card Reader slot. There is also a place to put in a Kensington lock in case you want to protect your laptop even further.

Keyboard and Touchpad

As mentioned before, the keyboard can be a bit flimsy. It looks great and as long as you type with care there should be no problem. However, it is possible if you type too fast and too vigorously that a key might get stuck and if you are not careful you could rip one off. However, that is rare and only a few users have complained of this. It is nothing that does not happen in all laptops.

The keyboard is great to type on once you are used to it, though, because it is extremely spacious. There is a number pad on the side, which is a bonus as most laptops do not have one.

Battery Life

This laptop can go close to 3 hours on a full charge if it is set to the lowest brightness and you are simply browsing the web and listening to music. Regular use would give you 2 hours or 2 hours 15 minutes, depending on what applications are open.

Heat and Noise

This is one of the quietest laptops around. Even if it is running many applications it will never make a sound and you will have to strain your ears right next to it to see if it is making processing noises.

It does not run too hot, but as all laptops, if you use it on your bed or sofa it may heat up. The best thing to do is use it on a table or have a book/laptop stand below it so that it gets the proper circulation.

This is for who?

This is a laptop that is designed for someone who wants to do simple computing and video/movie watching on their laptop. Do not get it if you are an avid gamer, as the graphics card is on the low end of the graphics card spectrum. However, for everything besides gaming this is the best laptop for the money.

It is also a great laptop for college students. It is the perfect mix for those people who want a laptop they can use anywhere and everywhere while also being able to be a desktop replacement that you can enjoy when you are in your room.

Why should you buy it?

It is under $600 and you are getting a fast processor, fast ram, a spacious hard drive, a beautiful 15 inch screen and a computer that can last you for years. Acer Aspire AS5750-6438 15.6 Inch Laptop is definitely worth the money and it is a laptop that you will come to love once you buy it. After all, many laptops that have similar specifications cost nearer to $1000, so this is a steal. The Core i5 is the best processor out there aside from the Core i7, and you can run almost any applications simultaneously without slowing down your computer.
