Build and Design
This Acer TimelineX was built with one key issue in mind and that is portability. It is small and it is light. In order to keep the weight on this laptop to a minimum the outside shell had to be made super thin and that may affect its durability. Made of light weight plastic, you are going to be tempted to baby it a bit. However you wanted a laptop to carry around and use where ever and whenever you liked, so pack it up and go.
The designers at Acer certainly wanted this laptop to look good and its thin black shell delivers. The bottom has easy access if you want to upgrade, as the panels are right there. While there are certainly more durable laptops out there, for the price and the size this little Acer delivers in the construction department. Its glossy black shell does give this computer a look of a more expensive model.
Display and Speakers
The thing that most people will complain about on the Acer display is that it is small. However the idea was that they were buying a laptop with an eleven inch screen. For its size this Acer laptop delivers exactly what you would expect, with common quality and common settings. This computer is a backlit LED screen and looks exactly how you would expect it to look; it has a standard screen resolution and graphics. The one thing that does set this little beauty apart for other laptops of this size is that it is pleasant to look at and everything is easy to see.
When it comes to the speakers they are also exactly what you would expect as they are small and cannot be heard from far away, if sound is important to you, you will find yourself looking for good ear buds or at least some higher grade external speakers. The key to remember is that you bought this laptop for its size and its price and in order to keep the price where you wanted Acer had to sacrifice quality somewhere.
Ports and Features
In order to keep its price point Acer did not add any extras to the ports, you get the standard USB ports a DVD slot and ports for external display and Ethernet. With the price you are paying you have to know you are going to get nothing fancy and this Acer laptop will not disappoint. There also are no extra slots so new ports cannot be added.
Keyboard and Touchpad
If you see an advertisement for this Acer laptop they mention the great keyboard, and this does seem to be the place where this eleven inch laptop delivers a little more than expected. It is definitely a full size laptop keyboard and it is really easy to get used to. The flat keys with very little space between them make this very user friendly and this is the point that you will be happy you purchased the TimelineX.
Since the overall design is that of a standard laptop keyboard you should not have any problems finding the keys you are looking for and there cannot be enough said about the way this keyboard improves the ease of use of this laptop.
Screen and Speakers
With the price and size of the Acer TimelineX eleven inch laptop durability must be a concern, however this screen seems to be built with the intention of it holding up to what life has to offer. Like the keyboard, there seems to have been some thought put into the durability of the screen. Although it is small, the screen delivers at a slightly higher level than some of the other features of this portable computer.
The speakers on the other hand do not provide the same secure feeling. At high volume you feel like they may blow at any minute, and there can be some slight vibrating. Once again in order to keep this at a salable price corners had to be cut and the speakers are that place.
Performance
Most people believe that all computers could always work faster, so it would be nice if the Acer TimelineX moved just a bit quicker. Although for its size, this computer does deliver at a pretty high speed, web pages load and everything moves along at a reasonable rate. Where the performance of this laptop hits at a higher level is when turning on and off. Both processes are quick when minimal drag time.
There are portable computers out there that take forever to boot up, however this little Acer is on in a flash, and off in an even quicker flash.
Battery Life
Every computer has pluses and minuses and something that makes them stand out and for the Acer TimelineX it is the battery life, this laptop can get almost eight hours on one charge if you are doing homework or surfing the web. If you are gaming it still gets a little over four hours, so there is never a concern of running out of battery when it counts.
Another very cool aspect of the battery life is the battery charger. This charger like this laptop is sleek and small, may one of the best battery chargers out there. So with this Acer there is no more carrying around a bulky charger that is the same size of the computer. When it comes to the battery of this TimelineX, it delivers in a big way.
Heat and Noise
All computers give off heat as they run, but this laptop can comfortable sit on your lap and not be uncomfortable. This noise is another cool factor as this computer is super quiet, you almost do not know it is on and running.
This is For Who?
This little Acer laptop is for anyone that has a greater concern about price that features. While it is built to survive a normal life it is at the lower end of price and quality. If you need a portable computer for word processing and maybe some spreadsheet work this is exactly the computer for you, if you are going to be jet setting around and banging it up, you may want to go with a more expensive model.
This is definitely for the person the needs an inexpensive computer to do basic computer functions.
Why should you buy it?
Acer Aspire TimelineX As1830t-6651 11.6-Inch Laptop is a great purchase when you compare it to other like sized laptops. The battery life alone is worth the price and when you look at it with the others it stands out because it does have a full sized keyboard and a nice screen. You get what you pay for and the short comings of this portable computer are not as big a deal as some may think. If you need something small and portable in this price range the Acer TimelineX eleven inch laptop computer is exactly what you are looking for.
