Build and Design
In regards to design, most laptop computers make the same first impression. But this machine, with its severe thinness and matte, no-nonsense shell, catches the eye as a gorgeous and fashion-forward device. The thin design does not just serve one’s ascetic appetite, it also makes the computer more pleasant to carry and use. Since it is ultra thin, this computer is just at 1 inch thick and is very lightweight.
The design, being more flattened and stretched out than other laptops, might take up a bit more desk or lap space than its competition. However, it doesn’t feel encumbering to use or carry because it is so light. The sharp cobalt blue color gives the impression of industrial strength toughness and power. The design is certainly not targeting pre-teen girls or flowery types. This laptop came to play with the big dogs and it expects to be taken seriously.
Display and Speakers
Extra speakers have always been a necessity to have premium sound from a laptop. Rarely has any notebook, laptop or desk top manufacturer addressed the serious lack of premium sound output. Usually, one always needed extra speakers hooked up to their laptop in order to have high quality audio. Acer is trying to shave off all that bulk. The sound system in this thin style icon is just about as good as it gets. The two speakers are top of the line home theatre style speakers installed to give ultimate quality.
The display is low glare and pleasant to peer into. This is a major improvement from its ancestors. Acer has made several laptops in their Timeline X line that have extremely high glare screens that don’t seem to go along with the otherwise expensive-feeling components. The quality of the picture is fantastic and clear as well. Acer seems to have finally gotten the display right.
Ports and Features
There are two USB 2.0 ports for external devices. Also, there is an Ethernet jack, VGA, HDMI, and headphone/microphone.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard is rigid and feels solid. There is little to no flex in the metallic panel surrounding the keyboard. The keyboard is much more spacious than the competition, again because of its flatter, more stretched out design.
The touchpad is multi-gesture. In other words, the touchpad, or mouse pad, can detect two points of contact on it. This means that the touchpad will perform a different set of commands when the user uses one finger as it does when the user is operating with two fingers on the touchpad. Some people prefer working with the touch pad instead of the keyboard, and vice versa. This feature gives the user more functions that are accessible on the touchpad instead of only on the keyboard.
Performance
The overall performance of the AS4830TG-6450 is reliable, consistent and highly satisfying. The processor gives the user as more power when needed and the speed increases automatically depending on what is required. Many reviewers have called it excellent and though it is very new, it is becoming popular rapidly.
Battery Life
Breaking the eight hour battery-life barrier is what put Acer on the map. This fine specimen has a nine hour battery life. Also, on the upper right corner of the keyboard, there is a small button with the letter “P” next to it. This is the “powersmart” button. It adjusts the power needs to extend the life of the battery as needed for computing on the go.
Heat and Noise
This is reportedly one of the most quiet laptop computers on the market, thanks to internal fans that keep the system both cool and quiet. The fan noise is almost silent during most times, and perhaps not even needed until intense software usage. The fans are always be quieter than the speakers.
Who should buy it?
This machine is ideal for a college student, young professional who must do a lot of work on the go, and is perfect for more casual use at home. This laptop is not intended for handling highly demanding software on a daily basis though it can handle a great deal of internal strain when needed. It is perfect for light, everyday internet activity and word programming or gaming use. This laptop will last a very long time at this rate of use.
Why should you buy it?
For one thing, the battery life is superb. There is no other machine on the market that can make the claim to last nine hours. One can even use this laptop to charge an I-phone/ I-pod with the lid closed.
Also, the cost is quite attractive. It is priced incredibly low compared to the competition. With its superb home theatre speakers, it acts as a brilliant entertainment device as well as a computer, thus being two great gadgets for one price.
Another great feature for Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4830TG-6450 14-Inch Aluminum Laptop is the multi-gesture touchpad which allows the user to perform functions without using key-combinations on the keyboard. This can be especially helpful for the “hunt and peck” typists.
Lastly, the sleek razor-fine elegant style and its light weight really closes the deal for most users. This laptop is easy to handle and carry and is quite attractive.
